How can one sense reiki energy?

Published by noeticnotes at 8:36 am under Reiki Edit This

I honestly don’t remember if I sensed energy fields prior to taking a Level I Reiki course. After I took the class, I easily sensed the energetic fields of animals or people. I believe, even without reiki training, any person can cultivate sensitivity to the subtle energetic field. Below are two exercises you may find helpful.

Exercise One: Feel the energy ball between your hands

Rub your hands vigorously together for 10 to 15 seconds. Separate your hand as if you held a tennis ball between your palms. Open your hands further apart, as if you held a cantaloupe and hold your hands there for a few seconds. Now, slowly, bring your hands close together again and squash that imaginary tennis ball. Do you notice any pressure? Is there a certain point where you notice resistance? Repeat the procedure from the beginning by rubbing your hands for 30 to 60 seconds. Pay close attention to the sensations in your fingertips and palms as you separate your hands and bring them closer together repeatedly. Be open and aware to any sensations.

Exercise Two: Feel the energy from another person’s hands

Sit or stand across from another person. As in exercise one, each of you need to warm up your hands by rubbing them together for 30 to 60 seconds. Then place your hands together, so the palms of each person’s hands face each other, and slowly separate them. What do you sense? What does your partner sense? Repeat for several minutes.

It may take a few sessions to sense any difference, but, with practice, you will likely begin to sense the energetic cushion that surrounds any living thing.

Please note:

I modified exercises suggested in the thoughtful and interesting book The Hayashi Reiki Manual: Traditional Japanese Healing Techniques from the Founder of the Western Reiki System by Frank Petter, Tadao Yamaguchi, and Chujiro Hayashi.
